VITICULTURE / VINIFICATION
Piggy Bank Carmenere comes from the northernmost
wine producing region of Chile, some 320 miles north of Santiago
at a latitude of 30o south. The Elqui Valley is blessed with a perfect
climate, enjoying more than 300 days of sunshine a year and, although
average rainfall is less than 80 mm, the snow melt and glaciers
in the Andes ensure there is enough water to sustain the vines.
The soils are stony and the vines are 6 - 10 years old. The grapes
for this wine came from vineyards in the La Compaņia - Vicuņa area
and were harvested carefully by hand at the end of May.
Fermentation is followed by oak ageing for 30% of the blend for
4 months in premium American oak barrels. The wine is very lightly
filtered in order to preserve its full, intense fruity character.
