TASTING NOTES
Color: Pale yellow color, clean and bright
Nose: Delicately fragrant with aromas of fennel
Palate: Rich, yet fresh, with flavors of apple and citrus

VITICULTURE/VINIFICATION
The vineyards are located in layered terraced soil. The first layer is rich in river pebbles. The second layer is sand, and the third layer is a base of limestone. The soil is poor in organic material but retains warmth due to the mixture in the soil stratums.

The Agricola Castellana cooperative has some 400 small growers as members who cultivate 2,000 hectares of vineyards. The Vina de la Tierra de Castilla y Leon D.O. has a characteristic Mediterranean climate under the protection of the fertile waters of the Duero river. Summers are hot during the day, but the altitude of 2,300 feet guarantees cool nights and a perfect balance of sugar and acidity. Sunshine is over 2,600 hours per year.

The wine is made in a fresh style, fermented in stainless steel tanks with no oak aging. Further character is added through battonage, during which the wine is stirred on the lees (or yeast).

WINEMAKER: ANGEL CALLEJA
Angel Calleja graduated from the Vid School of Madrid in 1975, as part of the school’s first group of winemakers. He them immediately took over the Technical Department of Agricola Castellana. Since then, he has continued to grow as a winemaker. As the winery has grown in production and quality, each year becomes a new challenge for Angel. He is currently one of the most prestigious winemakers, not just in Rueda, but nationally as well. He is a member of the tasting panels of the Regulatory Boards of Rueda, Toro and Cigales, as well as a judge for the Zarcillo and Manojo awards.
