The vineyards are located on clay and limestone soils in Rioja Alta with an average age of 25 years for the vines. Harvest took place in October following a warm summer which helped maturity. Fermentation was in stainless steel
tanks with the temperature regulated at 26o C. When fermentation was done, the wine was racked into barrels for 8 months. Selection of barrels is of particular importance in Rioja where oak is such a critical element in winemaking. 50% of the wine went into American oak barrels and 50% into French oak barrels. This results in the perfect balance of fruit and oak.

88 Points (2008 vintage) - Wine Advocate, Issue # 189, June 2010
“Gran Familia offers up a fragrant nose of cedar, leather, spice box and blackberry. This is followed by a mediumbodied wine with plenty of savory fruit, a forward personality, and enough structure and balance to drink well over the next 5 years. It is an excellent value."
